Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of Abbey Hill Academy, Green Gates Academy, Hollis Academy, Mo Mowlam Academy and Westlands Academy. The academies serve a population of approximately 550 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties.

Abbey Hill Academy & Abbey Hill Academy Sixth Form are at the forefront of current developments in the education of young people with special needs. We specialise in meeting the needs of students aged 11 to 19 who have a full range of learning disabilities.

Abbey Hill Academy, where this post will be situated, provides for approximately 320 young people aged 11 to 19 years who have learning difficulties, as well as other physical, medical and social needs.

The academy is seeking to recruit a teacher of Mathematics to join our team to cover the maternity leave of our current post holder. The post is to teach students aged 11-16 with a broad range of special educational needs. The successful candidate will need to have excellent subject knowledge and be able to deliver mathematics to students with a wide range of ability levels.

The majority of teaching will be to students working between Year 1 and Year 6 expectations. Knowledge and experience of teaching PPU, Entry Level and Functional Skills Maths is desirable. The right candidate will need to be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher, with high expectations of our children and themselves and have the ability, perseverance and resilience to be an outstanding practitioner.

Applications are welcome from newly qualified or experienced teachers from a primary or secondary background. As well as excellent curriculum knowledge, good communication and interpersonal skills, the successful candidates will have proven ability to work as part of a team of teachers and support staff. Previous experience of working with students with SEN would be desirable but not essential.
