Sunderland City Council/City Development Directorate is seeking to recruit a Senior Development Manager Major Projects as part of the Major Projects team.

The Senior Development Manager will be responsible for leading and delivering a range of ambitious major projects over their total lifecycle from inception to completion and handover. They will be responsible for all aspects of the project delivery process and control in complex stakeholder environments including business case development, technical design development, health and safety/CDM, the consenting process, management of multidiscipline teams, procurement strategy, tender and award, quality in construction, completion, commissioning and handover. The projects are varied including Energy/ Renewables/Green Industrial Decarbonisation/Large Scale Manufacturing/Marine/Strategic Utility Networks/Ports and Marine/ Public Transport all centred around climate emergency response. The carbon target has been set to 2030 and this role will help transform Sunderland across sectors to meet the challenge. The individual will play a major role within a City that is already committed, taking shape alongside 5g digital enabling programmes and be in tune with Central Govt initiatives and agencies. They will support, respond and secure external private sector investor requirements across sectors in tune with meeting the climate emergency response. City Development has embarked on ambitious plans across Sunderland and this role is pivotal to successful delivery of projects that change Sunderland for the next generations and as such carries a lot of responsibility in driving the agenda in Decarbonisation and Energy forward to ambitious timescales.

The successful candidate will need to hit the ground running and take charge of existing projects, while bringing forward new projects and so we are looking for an exceptional candidate with a demonstrable experience of taking major projects from plan through to implementation, planning and facilitation of investment. We anticipate this candidate will be educated to a degree level with a further professional qualification(s) in engineering/energy and environment/construction management, but ideally would have IEE/MICE/StructE/APM or equivalent. We’d expect them to have significant experience delivering major projects of strategic nature/flagship projects as well as Industry experience dealing with major projects in transport energy/decarbonisation/ports/manufacturing sectors.
