Gateshead Council’s Libraries, Arts & Heritage Service is looking to appoint a Community Arts Officer to develop and support community engagement in arts and cultural activities across the borough. Gateshead’s Arts Development Programme is designed to deliver the Council’s Health & Wellbeing priorities, supporting the Thrive agenda to ensure fairness and inclusion. The programme has a focus on participation across all art forms, with activities for all ages including outreach, arts in education, exhibitions, festivals, workshops and targeted work with priority communities. The Community Arts Officer will also advocate, engage and support artists, strengthening the cultural sector in Gateshead.
You will have knowledge of arts in health methods and their benefits and an understanding of art forms used in participatory practice. You will have project management experience and a track record of designing and coordinating arts events in communities, focussing on engagement and participation. You will also have knowledge of health and safety requirements for cultural activities.
You will be experienced in collecting and analysing data, using creative evaluation to inform programming approaches and budget management. You will also have experience of effectively communicating with partners and communities, delivering participatory arts programmes, and projects in collaboration with external organisations.
You will have an Arts Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant area, a current driving licence or access to mobility support and you will have experience of using Microsoft Office applications.
The Arts events programme often includes evening and weekend activities, therefore you must be willing to work outside of office hours, if needed.
