Newcastle is a great City, with a proud history. We never stand still. Our children and families reflect the changing face of our communities, our vibrancy and diversity. We know the Covid pandemic has been tough for many, especially those who were already facing challenges. But we are ambitious about working with our communities to grow a brighter future.

We have bold plans to improve our work with, and outcomes for, children and families. Building on our recent successes and supported through £3.1m funding from DfE’s Strengthening Families Protecting Children Programme (SFPC), we are adopting a new relational approach. This is a whole system change, shaping practice with restorative language, culture, behaviours, and ways of working.
We want to put children and young people’s voices at the heart of these developments, enabling them to be part of decisions effecting their everyday lives and to influence strategy and services in the City.

To achieve this, we are creating a new Voice and Influence Team based in the Children, Education and Skills directorate. We are looking to recruit two officers to join the team, reporting to the Child Friendly Newcastle Lead.

These are dynamic change-making roles. You will be working closely with colleagues inside and outside the Council, engaging directly with children and young people, and helping to shape the future of our City.

One role (fixed term for 24months) will primarily focus on developing new ways of working within the Council, especially in Children’s Social Care. The other (fixed term for 12months) will largely work with other city partners to develop their approaches to being child friendly, as well as assisting with our cross-sector campaign to make Newcastle the best place to be young.

Are you are committed to working with children, young people and families to create a truly child friendly Newcastle where no one under25 is left behind? Then we would like to hear from you.

To find out more about these roles or arrange an informal discussion with our Child Friendly Newcastle Lead, please email ben.dickenson@newcastle.gov.uk.

We offer a comprehensive range of training, including a programme of restorative and relational practice training and professional opportunities that evolves and develops to meet the needs of our workforce at all stages of their career.

In addition, you will receive:
• A dedicated induction
• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
• A range of flexible working options
• A generous Flexi Scheme
• Access to Mindfulness sessions and other wellbeing initiatives
• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
• Access to a home electronics scheme and vehicle leasing scheme.
