Further Information
Based on our four pillars of academic excellence, a rich extracurricular life, character and citizenship, and exceptional pastoral care, Wolsingham School is committed to helping every child fulfil their true potential.

We are seeking a full time Head of Geography who is passionate about their subject, is an excellent practitioner and is committed to making our students grapple with challenging issues and think deeply about the world around them.

Located at the heart of Weardale, an area of outstanding natural beauty, we are just a short drive west of Durham. Our school is in a stunning building that combines original architecture with a new build and is set in extensive grounds.

For over 400 years our school has been committed to bringing out the best in our students. We run 10-15 extracurricular clubs each term and a huge range of educational visits and activities throughout the year. Recent activities for our Geography students include the Photography-Animation project at High Force waterfall and a trip to Hamsterley Forest to study rivers; this year, they are also joining in the nationwide Geographical Photograph Competition.

Our school is a great place to teach. Students are exceptionally well-behaved and their relationships with staff are excellent. In 2018, Ofsted warmly confirmed our ‘Good’ rating saying, “Pupils are very happy at school and wear their uniform with pride.”

Our staff and Leadership Team are extremely supportive and we provide excellent professional development opportunities. We are a member of the Advance Learning Partnership, an Equal Opportunities Employer, and we welcome applications regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity or religion.

Applicants with disabilities will be invited for interview if the essential job criteria are met. Our school is also committed to the protection and safety of its students; any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and appropriate references.

The Head Teacher, Mr Jonathan Ferstenberg, would be very happy to answer any questions you have or to meet with you either virtually or in person.
