JOB DESCRIPTION: The Private Sector Housing team regulates the private rented sector in the borough and are committed to improving housing conditions and protecting residents within our area. We take a twin track approach to working positively with those landlords who take their responsibilities seriously, whilst taking the strongest possible action against those who neglect their responsibilities.
You will contribute to improving the quality of privately rented housing within the borough, investigating reports of sub-standard housing conditions and poor management practices. Inspecting residential dwellings in accordance with the relevant legislation and undertaking a range of duties in relation to but not limited to privately rented properties that require intervention, securing improvements through negotiation or enforcement. Liaising with property owners/managers and regulators to resolve any issues of non-compliance.
This apprenticeship would suit someone with a background in Environmental Health, Housing, Surveying or Building Constriction - whilst some experience in one or more of these areas be desirable, full training will be provided.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: All candidates are required to meet the essential requirements set out below. Please address in your application how you meet the following:
• Minimum 5 GCSEs Grade C/4 or above or equivalent Level 2 qualifications (must include English & Maths)
• Demonstrate an interest in building/construction, environmental health or housing law
• Excellent IT Skills – Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
• Ability to work in an organised and methodical way to analyse and solve problems
• Numerate and have the ability to copy/transfer information accurately
• Highly motivated, and not easily discouraged

APPRENTICESHIP QUALIFICATION: You will be given appropriate paid time off work, to work towards completion of the Regulatory Compliance Officer – Level 4 apprenticeship qualification. PLEASE NOTE: You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in the same or similar subject.

APPRENTICESHIP BENEFITS: We offer an excellent benefits package for apprentices. You will be given a fixed term contract allowing you sufficient time to complete your apprenticeship qualification (see below), with the potential to secure a longer-term position to grow within the organisation. We will provide you with a dedicated Mentor to support you during your apprenticeship and you will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement as well as access to a number of additional employee benefits and additional learning and development opportunities.

APPRENTICESHIP DURATION: 27 MONTHS

SALARY: £9.62per hour, £18,562per year
