We are looking to recruit a Deputy Arbor & Fixed Play Officer to join our busy and expanding Environmental Services Arboricultural Team. As our Deputy Arbor & Fixed Play Officer you will be ready to support and deputise in the absence of the city wide Arbor & Fixed Play Officer and learn how to lead on the co-ordination of day to day Arbor Team operations and functions throughout the City. The primary function of the role is to ensure that all services provided by Sunderland City Council’s Arbor Team are to the required service specification and meet with customer expectations. With the right training and existing management experience, and a foundation knowledge in horticulture / arboriculture, the successful candidate will be capable of directing the Arbor Team to carry out a full range of duties including climbing and cutting work at height, large tree felling, platform lift work, making safe in the aftermath of storm & accidental damage, and performing tree safety inspections. The successful candidate will be suitably confident to direct and manage day to day arboricultural operations and will understand the range of equipment and machinery required to undertake the various operations that the team undertakes. As well as learning about the Arboricultural side of the business, the successful candidate will also learn about the fixed play park maintenance side of the role and oversee the work of the dedicated Fixed Play Maintenance & inspection Team.
Candidates must have a full UK driving licence, and there is a business desire for the successful candidate to be licensed to drive vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tons. The successful candidate must also have a proven interest in horticulture and hold related qualifications in land-based studies. The holding of existing horticultural / arboricultural qualifications is an essential requirement, as is a demonstrated ambition and personal commitment to further study and successfully graduate as part of the appointment.
