Aycliffe Secure Centre
Aycliffe is a standard bearer of residential accommodation for vulnerable young people proven by the successful retention of its ‘Outstanding’ status from OFSTED since 2019. The staff at Aycliffe provide a caring, therapeutic, and motivational environment for young people aged between 10 and 18. Our young people are vulnerable as a result of complex histories which can include neglect, trauma or interaction with the Youth Custody Service.
Further information on our centre, its outstanding facilities and our fantastic team can be found at: www.durham.gov.uk/aycliffesecurecentre
This is an exciting time to be joining Children & Young Peoples Services in County Durham, we will be expanding the service in mid - 2022 to include a first of its kind, Transition Home.
Our Transition Home will look to equip our young people with the strategies to successfully reintegrate into the community after sending time with us in the main centre. The overall aim of our Transition Home is to provide our young people with support to access education, training or employment and practical help to develop independent living skill. We will also provide support to explore and reduce the anxieties experienced by our young people as they look to move on into a community setting.
This is an extremely rewarding role; you will play a significant part in the rehabilitation of our young people and provide support and encouragement to enable them to successfully return to their families or go on to live independent lives within the community.
As a Residential Worker, having the best interests of young people at heart is of paramount importance, you will be challenged but more importantly, you will experience first-hand, the differences that can be made with your care, compassion, and time.
Your life and works experiences are valuable to us but what we’re more interested in is what you can personally offer our service to take it forward. If you possess resilience, determination, and an intrinsic desire to help, we want to hear from you.
We offer a comprehensive six-week induction and shadowing programme for all new members of the team as well as excellent ongoing training and development opportunities. Alongside this, we provide dedicated one-to-one time to reflect upon workplace practice and facilitate access to specialist support when needed.
What you can expect
• 26 days holidays per year increasing to 31 after five years continuous local government service (pro rata)
• Option to purchase up to 10 additional days annual leave per year through our salary sacrifice scheme
