The Service
Technical Services is responsible for the provision of three key functions across Northumberland. We manage, maintain and improve the highway and transport network, to make sure that everyone can travel safely and without significant delay or disruption on our roads, footways and cycleways throughout the year. Alongside this we arrange home to school transport and procure supported public transport services. We also provide the Lead Local Flood Authority and Coastal Protection Authority roles.
We manage investment of over £20m per year in highway maintenance and improvement schemes through the Local Transport Plan capital programme.
Based within Technical Services Department, the Highways Improvement Team is responsible for compiling and delivering the Council’s Local Transport Plan with particular focus on developing the integrated transport schemes including safety improvements. We are a key partner in the Northumberland Road Safety Co-ordination Group (NRSCG) which co-ordinates and delivers a multi-agency approach to road casualty reduction in Northumberland.
We also manage school crossing patrol sites and deliver cycling, road safety training and information to over 7,000 children annually across the County giving them the opportunity to travel safely and lead a healthier lifestyle.
The successful applicant will join the busy and vibrant team and lead on the delivery of road safety training at schools across the County.
The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is passionate about improving local places, who will manage the co-ordination and development of a programme of practical on-road pedestrian training for children at schools across Northumberland, and at external training centres. The successful applicant will organise and lead on the delivery of practical pedestrian training to groups of children in the highway environment in accordance with established policies.
They will also assist with the operation of School Crossing Patrols across Northumberland, and the the co-ordination and delivery of the Safer Routes to School programme.
As a successful applicant you will need to demonstrate that you can communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and have good attention to detail.
