Newcastle City Council Adult Services Department would like to recruit a Social Worker to join the Drug and Alcohol Social Work team for a 12 month period. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to be part of a small, specialist team to provide a social work service for adults who are wanting to access residential rehabilitation services.
The postholder will need to have an appropriate Social Work qualification and have good knowledge of issues relating to alcohol and substance misuse, treatment and recovery.
This post has been created to support adults who have been in contact with the Criminal Justice System to access appropriate drug and alcohol treatment including improved access to residential rehabilitation facilities. A key part of this role will be to strengthen links and develop appropriate treatment pathways with partner agencies.
You will offer advice and information to individuals wanting to access residential rehabilitation services, and to staff working within drug and alcohol and criminal justice services. You will carry out assessments and where appropriate carry out preparatory work and coordinate and manage admissions to residential rehabilitation facilities. You will need to work in partnership and develop good relationships with local and national treatment services.
