SHINE is looking for an enthusiastic and committed worker to join a small established community development team working in Newcastle to undertake sexual health promotion and HIV prevention work with women from disadvantaged and marginalised communities.
This post offers an exciting career development opportunity. The successful applicant will be involved in provision and development of services for women, including those who are involved in the sex industry, vulnerable to sexual exploitation or victims of trafficking; for women within black and ethnic minority communities and for women who are lesbian, bisexual or questioning.

This can be through outreach activities, group work, the provision of one to one support and training, some of which may be online.

The successful applicant must have knowledge and understanding of HIV and sexual health, and the impact of these issues on women. Good communication skills and experience of facilitating and working with groups is essential, as is the ability to relate to a wide range of clients and professionals. The post holder will also be expected to operate as part of a team offering the HIV Test Service for which training will be provided. Identification of training needs and provision of training will also be part of this post.

Within this role, there will be the expectation that the post holder will provide support to the wider team as required.

Due to the nature of this work, we intend to appoint a female applicant to this post Section 7 (2) (e) of the Sex Discrimination Act applies.

This post is fixed term and the successful applicant will be entitled to travel and subsistence expenses. In-house training, supervision and support will be provided.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the relevant barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in a regulated activity.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Jill Hardie, Team Manager (acting) for MESMAC & SHINE, on 0191 277 2050 or 0191 233 1333 and leave a message, or 07966453966.

Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
