Over the past 18 months Gateshead Council has prioritised its COVID-19 response efforts in order to protect our residents during the pandemic, and many of our leisure services staff continue to play a vital role in this.

As we ease out of lockdown, we have started a phased reopening of our leisure facilities and we are now looking to appoint to the following vacancies on a temporary basis to cover the post holders who are still redeployed elsewhere to support the continuing COVID-19 response:

Duty Officer, Grade F – full time and casual posts

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of an excellent customer experience by ensuring the leisure facility operates effectively, and the programmed activities take place.

You must have knowledge of the leisure industry, including relevant legislation, professional issues and customer needs. Experience of supervising a range of roles within the leisure industry is essential therefore you must have proven effective communication skills and successful team working. Pool plant operational experience is also essential. You must also have experience of managing cash in accordance with financial regulations.

You must be committed to continued professional development and service improvement and hold the following qualifications:

Valid First Aid at Work certificate and AED operator,
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (pools).
National Pool Plant Operators Certificate (Pools only).
5 GCSE at Grade C or Grade 4 or above including English and Maths
