This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a lead role within the Public Health team to develop health programmes in partnership with other Council services and external stakeholders to reduce health inequalities and improve Health and Wellbeing.

You will ensure the widest possible participation in the Public Health Agenda and support the development and delivery of strategic Council objectives whilst supporting the post pandemic recovery with a particular focus on best start in life, children and young people.
You will take lead responsibility
for a programme area but combine this with a professional role across programme leads, supporting our approach to Health in all Policies, Health at Work and Public Health input to the Council’s Thrive strategy, working with the Director of Public Health, Consultants, Programme Leads and wider stakeholders.

Your focus will be on policy and strategy, but you will also work on quality assurance, performance management, and your continuing professional development. You will identify local population needs, use evidence-based interventions, interpret and influence national and local policy to inform and develop strategy and commissioning in Gateshead.

It is essential that you have a master’s degree in Public Health, or an equivalent Health related qualification, and a good knowledge of relevant legislation, national strategies, policies, local priorities, risks and interventions relating to Public Health and Health and Wellbeing.

You should have experience of applying and adapting specialist knowledge to local priorities, implementing health improvement programmes and working with a range of partners. You should have a track record of budget management, collating, analysing specialist and complex information, and communicating effectively to a range of partners. You will also have experience of interpreting and applying a range of engagement tools and using Microsoft Office applications.
