Further Information
North Tyneside is a great place to live work and visit. The Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn CBE has set out her priorities for the borough in the Our North Tyneside Plan.

One of those priorities is to ensure that we provide a clean, green, and sustainable environment.

As part of delivering this priority, the Authority has developed a 10-year plan for waste. This sets our strategic direction for waste over the next decade, taking into account the Government’s published waste strategy “Our Waste, Our Resources: A Strategy for England”. Also, the plan takes into account the declaration by the Council of a climate emergency and the Elected Mayor’s policy commitment for the borough to be free from single use plastics.

We are looking to recruit a waste strategy specialist to add the necessary technical expertise to our team. The post holder will play a pivotal role in delivering our plan and will provide expert advice to the senior officer and political team on identifying and implementing sustainable solutions. The successful applicant will have a strong track record in delivering strategic priorities relating to waste gained through broad experience within the sector and ideally within a local authority environment.

For an informal discussion contact Colin MacDonald, Senior Manager Technical & Regulatory Services on 0191 643 6416.

This post is politically restricted within the terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

North Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

In addition, staff and volunteers are expected to familiarise themselves with all relevant policies, procedures and guidance in relation to safeguarding children and safe practice with vulnerable adults. Within North Tyneside, safeguarding is everybody’s business.
