Senior Software Developer

You will be required to lead on introducing new programming languages and technologies to modernise our standard approach to software and digital service development. You will play a key role in planning our approach for modernising our catalogue of in-house legacy systems. You will be part of a cross-functional team that is responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment.

You will also be required to champion Agile methodologies and those promoted by the Government Digital Service (GDS), and actively support the development of colleagues in using new technologies, coding standards and development methodologies.

We are interested in people who:

• Have substantial experience with both front-end and back-end languages;
• Understand and have experience working with an Agile methodology;
• Have proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role;
• Have experience of open source technologies such as Python, JavaScript, Django framework;
• Have experience implementing User Experience (UX) focused designs;
• Have a good understanding of TDD and BDD;
• Have an understanding of SQL and noSQL database applications;
• Ideally have experience with distributed version control systems such as Git or MS Team Server;
• Ideally have some experience with containerisation processes and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes;
• Have knowledge and experience of APIs and RESTful services Architectures.
