We are seeking to appoint a Senior Clerk to provide administrative support to the Library, Arts and Heritage Service. Reporting to the Library Support Officer you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service by acting as a central point of contact for enquiries.

Communication skills are essential for this role as you will be responding to general enquiries including telephone, in writing and face to face. You will need to ensure a high level of accuracy in the development and maintenance of administrative and financial systems and have excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines. Applying a methodical approach to problem solving is also essential.

You must have excellent knowledge of IT Skills, including Microsoft Office, to assist you to prepare reports, minutes and general correspondence.

The role involves supervising and developing employees to ensure that there is effective service delivery. You must have experience in data input, record keeping, monitoring and maintaining manual and computerised records to ensure this data is processed in line with Data Protection Act and GDPR regulations.

In addition, you will have experience of working within an administrative background, working with the general public. You must be committed to customer care, and have experience of dealing with challenging people and difficult situations and to use your own initiative when required.

You must have 4 GCSE Grades 9-4 /A-C or relevant demonstratable experience is also essential. It is desirable that you have experience of working in a local authority environment.

You will be based as Gateshead Central Library.
