An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Health and Safety Team.

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated individual to join us as a Health and Safety Officer (Asbestos). The main purpose of this role is to be responsible for the effective and efficient control of the Councils asbestos management and associated works. Working under the direction of the Health and Safety Manager you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Council’s asbestos policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. This will include the identification, management and mitigation of risk, the production of risk assessments, asbestos management plans, safe working practice and procedures.

You will be responsible for implementing and managing a framework of contractors, ensuring that resources are available to deliver the required services and you will be required to communicate with other departments to ensure the safe coordination of works. You will also monitor the performance of licenced removal contractors, UKAS Analysts and Surveyors to ensure full compliance with all policies and procedures. You will play a key role in optimising performance, cost and risk, identifying and delivering training needs across the Council.

The successful candidate will have worked within a similar role previously and will ideally be educated to HNC level or equivalent in asbestos management or a related discipline and hold the BOHS 402 and P405, a NEBOSH National General Certificate would also be advantageous. You should also be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience of managing asbestos safety and associated works.

As the post is within the Health and Safety Team, you will be required to work as part of a team to provide assurance on the Council’s overall control environment. The successful candidate will support the overall provision of a corporate Health and Safety service by completing allocated tasks as designated by the Health and Safety Manager.

Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021 apply to this role, therefore evidence of Covid-19 Vaccinations will be required.
