We have many reasons to be proud of our existing services for children, young people and their families in Redcar and Cleveland. We have a passionate workforce who are committed to supporting children and young people to feel safe, healthy, happy and ready to learn and achieve. We respect everyone as equally valued members of our community by listening to their views and using their opinions to help shape our services.

Are you the right person to help us to develop a brighter future for our children?

If you share the ethos of Redcar and Cleveland’s Children and Families Directorate, this could be the opportunity you are looking for.

Redcar and Cleveland Council are looking to recruit a family support worker to join the children in our care team. The post holder will possess a passion for working with children and young people in care and support them to develop skills to build a positive future. You will be expected to display a strong team spirit, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to work across internal departments and external agencies.

The role will provide you with the opportunity to be part of the delivery of a high-quality service, improving the lives of children and young people in our care. As a family support worker, you will be responsible for supporting placement stability, providing targeted support, often alongside partner agencies and specialist services to empower young people, their families and networks to contribute positively to everyday life.

We care about our staff, recognise the importance of training and development and support our family support workers to reach their full potential. We have a clear Workforce Development Strategy, with opportunities for professional development and career progression.

The successful candidate will have experience of working within a children and families social work setting using a strength based model of practice and have strong communication and organisational skills.

The council holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.

We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a lease car scheme.
