Grade E (Teaching Assistant Level 3 + SSA)
Full time (37 hours per week Term Time Only)

The opportunity has arisen to join the Early Years Assessment and Intervention Team (EYAIT) as a Portage Worker.

We are looking for Specialist Teaching Assistants (Level 3) to work with senior Portage Workers and provide a home-based intervention service to pre-school children with complex additional needs, and their families. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside senior Portage Workers and other agencies to support and develop the existing high-quality offer to Gateshead families.

You must have good numeracy and literacy skills and possess NVQ level 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent qualification. It is essential you have a good understanding of the principles of child development, learning processes and barriers to learning, alongside knowledge of supportive practice and assessment for young children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). Experience of multi-agency working to support children with SEND and their families is also essential. A knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and its implications for practice is also essential.

You will be expected to work flexibly where required across Gateshead and travel independently to settings or have access to mobility support.

A knowledge of appropriate intervention strategies for young children and their families is desirable, along with a knowledge of working towards outcome-based targets and experience of working in both Early Years and Primary phases of education. An additional qualification in SEND is also desirable.

If successful, you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.

For further information and to discuss the role in more detail please leave your contact details on 0191 433 8539 and a member of the EYAIT will return your call.
