(Children and Families Social Care, South Tyneside)

We are excited to recruit to a newly created post that reflects our ambition and commitment to improving services for Children and Young Adults with SEND.

As a result of extensive consultation with young people, parents and carers it is clear that improving services for children who require additional services due to their need as they approach key changes in their life was a priority.

The purpose of this role is to be a fundamental part of developing a 0-25 service in the borough and then managing this operationally moving forward. The role will facilitate the forming and launch of the service alongside key agencies and children and parents in a co-produced way. The service is aimed to identify support needs early on, within school, home and the community and work alongside families to build on their strengths to ensure children have the right support, at the right time that can respond to changing need and challenges, throughout childhood. As children move into adolescence and towards adulthood we are committed to ensuring we identify immediate and longer term support needs and implement them in a timely way from the right services to avoid sudden and unforeseen changes as they become adults, reducing anxiety and increasing independence and creating bespoke support package that meet need and promote potential in all aspects of life. The service will offer a more fluid and flexible progression into adulthood, minimising change and providing a consistent level of advice, support and guidance through key points of change.

The post holder will be an experienced practitioner and manager in either (or both) children and adults social care disabilities services or SEND, who has extensive knowledge of statutory and legal duties within children and adults with disabilities within a local authority. Ideally the post holder will have experience of developing and embedding new and innovative services in a strategic way with a clear goal of improving outcomes for children and young adults. The post holder will work alongside the leadership teams in both Children and Adult Services to deliver a service that has a positive interface with both services and has a clear understanding of the duties required whilst being clear of a value base based on ambition, inclusion and relationships with children, young people and their families.

South Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant pre-employment checks.

Closing date: Noon, 27 May 2022.

Interviews will take place week commencing 20 June 2022.
