Secondment Opportunity – please seek permission from your Line Manager before applying

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Environmental Health Service’s Commercial Food and Safety Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable officer to provide dedicated systems support to the Council’s Food Safety function.

You will be a fundamental member of the Team providing direct support to officers on the ground. Duties will include data entry onto the Department’s Management Information system in the specialist fields of infectious disease, food safety inspections and interventions, and sampling. You will need to have a discreet and professional manner when dealing with members of the public and the business community due to the sensitive nature of some of the duties to be undertaken. Roles and responsibilities will develop as an understanding of the database increases. You will assist the Operations Manager to maintain the information system, to transition to a new database and to maximise use of the system’s additional functionality. You will appreciate the importance of attention to detail and timely data updates, particularly to support information sharing with the public and reporting to the Food Standards Agency.

You will play a key role in supporting Covid recovery of the team and the local businesses and residents who benefit from the Council’s work to promote food safety and standards.

You will effectively contribute to the work of the Environment Service ensuring that South Tyneside is a clean and attractive place to live and visit, that it is safe and is helping create communities where people are healthy.

Closing date: Noon, Tuesday 31 May 2022.
