Further Information
We have been successful in our bid to the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR) to establish a Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC).

You can read more about this on NIHR’s website here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/50-million-to-tackle-health-inequalities-through-research and on the City Council’s website here: https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/citylife-news/council/council-awarded-ps5m-develop-research-collaboration

This is an ambitious plan to change culture and practice within the city council and enable us to play our part in the collaborative research and analysis being undertaken with our partners in the city and across the region.

We are looking for people who share that ambition and want to use their skills and experience to make a difference to the lives of those who live and work in the city.

About the HDRC
Our residents, on average, die younger than in England as a whole. They are also more likely to live in poor health from a younger age. Men living in the poorest areas in Newcastle can expect to live nearly 14 years less than in others.

We want to better understand the factors impacting people’s health and wellbeing so we can develop evidence-based responses both within the council and across systems working in collaboration with local, regional and national partners. With cutting-edge, real-world research underpinning all our work in support of tackling the wider determinants of health, the HDRC will enable us to transform our approach to research and the impact it will have on our city and residents.

Find out more about the HDRC here: https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/sites/default/files/Health%20Determinants%20Research%20Collaboration.pdf

This role is one of a number within the HDRC to help us use our data for public good. You will be joining an organisation for whom data and analysis is a strategic priority and is investing heavily in our infrastructure to generate insight from it.

If you want to use your skills and professional curiosity to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of people who live and work in Newcastle, we’d love to hear from you.
For an informal conversation, please send an email to hdrc@newcastle.gov.uk and someone will get in touch with you.

When you are ready to submit an application, select 'Apply Now' and submit your CV. Please consider the essential criteria within the person specification in your submission. Candidates with the right skills and experience will be contacted by telephone as part of the shortlisting process, ahead of a formal interview.

This programme is funded by the NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaborations enable local authorities to become more research-active, embedding a culture of evidence-based decision making. The NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Newcastle is part of the NIHR and hosted by Newcastle City Council (NIHR151476).
