Further Information
We are looking to recruit an Electoral Services Support Officer to join our high-profile Electoral Services Team. It is an exciting time to join us, with major elections to take place in the next year combined with new and challenging changes that have been made to the regulations that govern the electoral process.

It will be a very varied role that changes throughout the year. The role will involve helping to compile and maintain the electoral register as well as supporting the planning and delivery of elections.  It will include processing large volumes of applications of different types, both on paper and online. You’ll also need to make decisions on those applications, usually to strict deadlines.  You’ll be expected to liaise with other departments and stakeholders, assist with recruiting and training temporary staff, promote registration and, of course, be at the heart of the democratic process at an election.

There will be a requirement to work additional hours at peak periods (including evenings and weekends). Due to the nature of the role, there will also be restrictions on when annual leave can be taken.

You will need the required experience of working in an administrative function. You will have good communication skills, coupled with a proactive attitude and a willingness to learn and to go that extra mile to meet tight deadlines. It would be helpful to have electoral experience but more important is the ability to organise and prioritise your own workload with minimum supervision. You must have a proven track-record of working with customers and data processing and IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365.

Why work for Sunderland City Council:
* We offer hybrid working (except during an election timetable and certain electoral registration periods), with a combination of home and office working

* Automatic enrolment with a pay and reward pension scheme with Local Government Pension Scheme

* Flexi time to allow for work-life balance (only where applicable)

* 26 days leave (excluding bank holidays) with the advantage of an additional leave scheme
