Further Information
We are seeking to appoint two Specialist Senior Educational Psychologists.
Post 1- Autism
You will support workforce development in schools and in our local authority services to increase staff understanding of autism and strategies that can help autistic children thrive. We are particularly interested in developing staff knowledge and understanding of current issues relating to autistic children, including supporting girls, and working with students who are anxious (and who may be finding it hard to attend school). You will be able to support whole school and whole system development, as well as working with individual children referred to the team. You may be asked to supervise an assistant psychologist.
Post 2- Transition.
You will support system development for children with special educational needs at points of transition, including moving from nursery to primary school, from primary to secondary school and from school into post 16 settings. You will be involved in implementing the Building Confidence, Thriving Children project which is running across our local authority for the next two years, and will also be involved in staff training and development, as well as individual work with children and their families at points of transition. You may be asked to supervise an assistant psychologist.
Who are we?
Our aim in Redcar and Cleveland is to help children thrive. We are a small Educational Psychology team aiming to grow. In our Local Authority, the different services across education and children’s social care work closely together. There is a strong focus on relational approaches to working with children and their families which extends across all teams. The EPS is well placed to shape policy and practice across our Directorate. Our relationships with schools are good. The Specialist Senior EP roles will be pivotal in supporting systems change and development; as well as working with schools in early intervention for their pupils. Our local authority is a research organisation, with support from the South Tees Health Determinants Research Collaboration; and there are opportunities to develop your own research with support.
If you are interested in helping us grow; and helping us to build collaborative, relational approaches to supporting children and families across systems, then this might be the role for you.
What we offer
The council holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award. We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, hybrid working and flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a car lease scheme and a refer a friend scheme.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council are dedicated to addressing the global climate emergency and have committed to being a net zero carbon borough by 2030.
Closing date – December 14th 2023
Interviews will be on the morning of Thursday 21st December at Inspire to Learn, Eston.
