Further Information
We are seeking to appoint two Assistant Educational Psychologists until July 2025.

You will be supporting the delivery of our Building Confidence, Thriving Children project with schools across Redcar and Cleveland and have a specific focus on supporting children and families through the transition from primary to secondary schools. You will be working with children from Y5 through to Y7 who have been identified as having special educational needs and who are likely to be vulnerable at transition.  You will be involved in work with individuals or groups of children aimed at developing their skills and confidence. You may also be involved with supporting parents to help prepare their child for secondary school, and in teacher training and support.

You will have a degree in psychology (or equivalent) and be eligible for graduate registration with the BPS. You will have some experience of working with children, and in services for children.

Who are we?

Our aim in Redcar and Cleveland is to help children thrive. We are a small Educational Psychology team aiming to grow. In our Local Authority, the different services across education and children’s social care work closely together. There is a strong focus on relational approaches to working with children and their families which extends across all teams.   The EPS is well placed to shape policy and practice across our Directorate. Our relationships with schools are good. We are excited to be able to offer assistant psychology roles who can increase the support available to children, families and schools at this important time in their education. Our local authority is a research organisation, with support from the South Tees Health Determinants Research Collaboration; and there are opportunities for you to be involved with evaluation of the Building Confidence, Thriving Children project as part of your role.

If you are interested in supporting children to thive, and in developing your own applied psychology skills then this might be the role for you.

What we offer
The council holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award. We offer very attractive terms and conditions of employment, including generous annual leave entitlement, hybrid working and flexible working hours (where appropriate), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and access to numerous other salary sacrifice schemes and staff benefits/discounts, including a car lease scheme and a refer a friend scheme.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council are dedicated to addressing the global climate emergency and have committed to being a net zero carbon borough by 2030.
