Further Information
Durham County Council has established an In-House Enforcement Agent Service and are seeking to recruit an Enforcement Agent. This is an exciting opportunity to join and contribute to the development of the team.
WHAT IS INVOLVED:
The service is responsible for the collection and enforcement of Council Tax, Business Rates, parking fines & fixed penalty notices, commercial rents, sundry debt and Housing Benefit Overpayments.
The successful candidate will join Transactional & Customer Services as part of the Payments, Income & Support Team.
You will be part of a responsive, efficient and effective Enforcement Agent service and will visit debtors’ premises with a view to collect payment for unpaid debts.
Whilst being a certificated Enforcement Agent would be beneficial it is not essential. You will be given full training to enable you to become a certificated Enforcement Agent.
You will be required to demonstrate some experience of working in debt recovery and dealing with customers in challenging situations.
You must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to deliver a customer focused service that is subject to frequent change.
Travel is an essential requirement of the post and you will be required to work flexibly, including some work outside of standard working hours plus some Saturday working.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake and pass a DCC driving assessment as part of our pre-employment checks before any offer of appointment can be confirmed.
If you are enthusiastic and have the necessary skills and experience to join the team, we would like to hear from you.

The process of becoming certificated as an Enforcement Agent includes a search of the Register of Judgments, Orders, Fines and Tribunal decisions against your full name and your home and business addresses for the last six years. A copy of this must be submitted to the Court along with your application for an Enforcement Agent certificate. If you have a CCJ or a bankruptcy order made against you in the last six years, this will affect your ability to apply for this role.

Candidates who do not evidence that they meet the essential qualifications and experience listed on the person specification will not be short-listed.
