Further Information
Special Support Assistant – Key Worker – 32.5 or 37 hours per week term time 193 days (Grade LG4)
The SEND team:
You will join an enthusiastic, multi-disciplinary team who provide high quality and effective support for pupils with a range of additional educational needs in a department with strong leadership. Our support ranges from pupils with language and communication difficulties, including pupils on the autistic spectrum, to pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, learning difficulties or physical difficulties. You will have a keen interest in working with pupils with additional needs to achieve positive outcomes in this inclusive environment. Knowledge and understanding of behaviour management and how to use scaffolding and visual strategies in class to support pupils is essential.
Your role:
The majority of your support will be directly supporting pupils, in classrooms, across our mainstream provision. You will also become the key worker for a number of pupils with additional needs. You will support them to access their academic curriculum and the wider school community. This will include developing effective working relationships with parents/carers and additional agencies, promoting a multi-agency approach to pupil support.
We welcome you to visit us:
We would welcome exceptional candidates to visit the school to meet our children and dedicated staff. If you are committed to joining a school that is driven by ambition to be better, values a comprehensive community school and thrive on being part of a team, then we look forward to meeting you.
Additional information:
We have invested in Norham High School, this includes Chromebooks and equipment for all pupils, refurbished classrooms / social areas, new technology for classrooms, and a personalised blend of North Tyneside Council Children Young People and Learning welfare support that promotes a positive work-life balance - colleagues' efforts are genuinely recognised and rewarded in unique ways. We have a wide and growing intake resulting in the school increasing in size, this is in part due to the shift in culture and reputation but also because we are proud to be a genuine comprehensive school that serves all abilities, supporting every individual pupil to excel from their starting point. Our curriculum is broad, balanced and well thought out supporting all pupils. We are committed to improving life chances and we have a strong sense of social justice. In joining us, you too will enjoy both the challenge and reward of serving our community - all children deserve the best and we really are making a difference to children’s lives.
Applications for this permanent post are invited from people who are keen to join an organisation that is recognised for the high quality care and support it provides for its pupils and staff, its committed staff team and the drive to raise standards at all levels.
