Look no further! Come and join the Highway Assets Team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council!
We are delighted that the current Principal Engineer has been promoted internally, leaving us with an opportunity in our friendly, supportive and professional team.
Good highway infrastructure is a vital part of Stockton-on-Tees and essential for the Borough's economic progress and future prosperity. Effective and efficient management of Highway Assets is a key factor in the Council’s ability to deliver its services and plays an essential role in supporting growth and attracting increased investment.
The Highway Assets team is responsible for effective management of the Borough’s highway infrastructure assets including 900km of carriageway, approximately 30,000 of streetlights and in excess of 400 structures.
We’re innovative, not afraid to try something new and are always looking for ways to maximise resources and evolve the way we deliver services for the future, to make a difference to the local community. For example, did you know we were one of the first local authorities to replace all of our streetlights with LEDs?
Your role will involve developing and delivering a long-term infrastructure asset management plan, effectively utilising the available budgets, ensuring a periodical review of the appropriate policies and strategies and effective management and monitoring of the condition of the assets. A key part of the role also involves engaging and communicating with a wide range of stakeholder groups including Members, Parish & District Councils, residents, businesses and internal operational teams.
You will join a multi-disciplined, successful highways and transport team who pride themselves on a professional approach, with positive and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
You will receive the support you need to thrive and career development opportunities.
Don’t just take our word for it! We asked our recent new starters what it’s like to work here and they said “It’s a really supportive team with so much knowledge. The communication with residents and Members is a priority and I was really impressed with the professional approach. I was only here for a couple of months when I was given the opportunity to go on an operational management course which was so useful for my development.”
“I love it! This is me until retirement!”
We are keen to hear from individuals with the following:
- A degree level qualification in a highway related field or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong and versatile communication skills
- An ability to engage and build relationships with a range of internal / external stakeholders.
- A customer focussed approach.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proven ability of multi-tasking in a busy environment.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Financial planning skills.
For further details on the role please refer to the attached Job Description.
We offer an excellent total reward package, including:
- A competitive salary up to £44,428 (plus pending pay award)
- Flexible Working arrangements – working onsite at our brand new main office in central Stockton, at our other Council buildings within the borough (where appropriate), and the ability to work some of your time from home.
- 27 days annual leave per year rising to 32 with 5 years service. Ability to purchase additional leave is also available.
- Generous Pension Scheme through the LGPS with ability to pay extra and plan for retirement
- Access to a number of employee benefits including salary sacrifice Car Lease Scheme, discounts at high street and online retailers, employee support including physiotherapy and more.
