About the role:
At this exciting time of unprecedented growth, Sunderland City Council is looking for a talented Principal Surveyor to join its land and investment team.
The Principal Surveyors work alongside colleagues in the City Development Directorate to contribute to the effective asset management of the Council’s land and property portfolio in support of the Council’s City Plan.
The post reports to the Senior Manager (Strategic Asset Management) alongside two other Principal Surveyors and two General Practice Surveyors. The successful applicant will be skilled in strategic acquisitions and disposals, including familiarity with acquiring property by way of compulsory powers.
This role offers exciting opportunities to be involved in major regeneration projects which will be transformative to the future of the City of Sunderland such as;
- Riverside Sunderland, a vibrant urban quarter delivering 1,000 sustainable new homes, 1 million square feet of modern employment space alongside bridges, parks and other significant infrastructure.
- The International Advanced Manufacturing Strategic Site (IAMSS), part of the £160m North East Investment Zone expanding the automotive manufacturing cluster, anchored by Nissan and including IAMP and Hillthorn Business Park.
- Crown Works Studios, a new £450m film and TV studio development delivering a film industry hub of some 1.66m sqft.
Experience Required:
The role requires you to be qualified to degree level in Real Estate or another relevant property degree and be a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
The successful candidate will have substantial surveying experience in either/both public and private sector including demonstrable experience of undertaking complex land and property transactions delivered within relevant deadlines and budgets.
You will demonstrate sound commercial acumen and entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to manage a number of projects concurrently in a fast paced working environment. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required.
The role does not directly line manage staff, but will require you to play a role in mentoring and developing less experienced members of the team, including preparing colleagues towards their RICS Assessment of Professional Competence when required.
