About the role
Our Helpline is a 24/7 telephone emotional support service. We provide confidential support to callers and provide advice and guidance around mental health and other issues, as well as crisis de-escalation. Our services also include web chat and SMS text support. The Helpline is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
You will provide a range of telephone support, signposting, advice, and guidance to adults experiencing mental health distress. You will need to be able to listen, carry out risk assessments and make decisions under pressure. You will use our telephone and information management systems to keep accurate records of calls and referrals.
The role requires shift work. This is on a 3 week rotating rota basis, comprising of 1 week of early day shifts, 1 week of mid shifts and 1 week of night shifts, also includes weekends. Office shifts can start as early as 6.45 am, please consider your method of transport before applying.
Part time and condensed hours working patterns are available to support your work life balance, allowing you more days off to do the things you love.
About you
To be successful in this role you will be genuinely empathetic, and have the ability to offer support for individuals who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health.
You will have exceptional communication skills, be articulate, able to actively listen and have a calm, confident manner. You will be able to carry out risk assessments and care planning to ensure each individual gets the support they need, and be proactive in responding to any risks. You will need to have exceptional record keeping skills, and be able to accurately record
Ideally, you will hold a Counselling Certificate Level 2, or have equivalent experience of providing emotional support to people in distress, and be willing to work towards a Level 3 certificate within the first 6 months of employment.
Experience of providing a service over the telephone to a range of individuals, including those in distress, would be advantageous. Experience of supporting people with mental health, either in a voluntary or professional capacity is essential, and can include experience from other social care fields that involve care planning and risk assessing of emotional support needs.
