About the role….
Three vacancies have arisen within the in-house Highway Team who deliver the day to day maintenance and improvement works to the highways and footway networks within Gateshead.
We are looking for individuals that are time served as a mason paviour. Candidates must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of Construction Health and Safety legislation in relation to highways works and a proven track record of working in the highway maintenance or construction industry together with a forward thinking attitude to ensure the service continues to build on its previous successes.
You will undertake a range of advanced Highways tasks including kerb laying, block paving, flag laying, laying concrete, drainage and all natural stone products. Undertake traffic management associated with highway functions and to use and interpret plans and drawings in relations to highways functions. You will be responsible for the identification of underground services during the execution of highway duties. Also be able to provide advice and guidance to other employees as required, ensuring work is carried out in accordance with instructions.
The vacancy is available at the Highways depot at Shearlegs Road. You will work a standard 37 hour week, Monday to Friday.

You must have…
Knowledge of:
A broad knowledge of highways works including traffic management, drainage, street lighting and signage
Experience of:
Trade background with relevant on-site work experience ideally with some experience of supervising others.
Experience of working with a wide range of highways materials.
Operation of relevant plant and machinery.
Working in a self-disciplined manner to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of workmanship
Effective communication with clients to ensure specification and requirements are met.
Experience of working to the requirements of the highways permit scheme
Qualifications:
NVQ or equivalent in relevant trade background.
Current CSCS Health and Safety Compliance Card or equivalent
Hold relevant skill and H&S qualifications to operate relevant plant and machinery.
Willingness to undertake specific training associated with the role.
