The Governors and Headteacher of Frosterley Primary School from The Dales Partnership are seeking to appoint a compassionate and committed primary teaching assistant to work in a 1:1 role, within the classroom, supporting a year three pupil with SEMH needs.
This is a unique role, working in a beautiful rural school in Weardale, County Durham, with a responsibility for supporting one Year 3 aged Looked After pupil in a small mixed year group class (Y3/4). The role involves working closely with the class teacher, but specifically as a 1:1 learning and pastoral support teaching assistant to promote the pupil’s emotional wellbeing and engagement with learning and wider school opportunities and activities.
As an individual with a passion for working with disadvantaged and vulnerable children who have experienced significant early life trauma, you will play a key role in planning, implementing and reviewing positive behaviour management strategies and approaches, teaching and learning input and support, and pastoral guidance in order to promote their academic progress and social/emotional wellbeing.
We are a warm, welcoming school dedicated to achieving the best academic and pastoral outcomes for all our pupils. Pupils and staff wellbeing are central to the ethos of our school. Our highly skilled and committed staff team work extremely well together providing the best for our children, parents and community.
We are looking for someone who:
• is caring, enthusiastic and committed to their role in supporting children
• has high expectations of children’s achievement and behaviour
• is motivated and uses their initiative when necessary
• is passionate about creating a stimulating learning environment
• has experience of working with children with special educational needs
• is able to work as part of a team
• has experience of supporting children in their learning and contributing to observational assessment
• is flexible and adaptable to the demands of the role
• has excellent organisation and communication skills
• is able to support the class teacher to help develop learning
We can offer:
· Happy, enthusiastic children who enjoy coming to school to learn.
· A highly motivated, friendly and caring staff team.
· A staff team who are committed to the further development of our school.
· Professional development opportunities through tailored CPD.
· The support of a committed Governing Body and Leadership team.
· An active role in contributing to the shared vision of our school.
The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Calculation of term time only plus two weeks’ pay
Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated on the basis of the following:
• Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks; plus
• Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
• Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks; plus
• Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years’ service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years’ service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:
Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
Calculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and, if successful, you will need to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure.
As a disability confident employer, we are committed to employing disabled people and people with health conditions making reasonable adjustments to support disabled applicants when required.
