The Play Team is part of Sport, Leisure & Libraries. You will be part of a busy dedicated three-person team who maintain all of the equipped play areas and skate parks within the Borough. This post is for a Play Site Maintenance Officer. You will work closely with the other team members to allow all maintenance and cleaning tasks to be carried out safely and in line with agreed standards.

The Play Team inspect, clean and carry out repairs within the 50 plus play areas, multi-use games areas and skate parks in North Tyneside. We provide a responsive service to ensure that all play facilities comply with Health & Safety regulations and legislation providing safe, clean and fun play spaces for residents and visitors to the Borough.

You will be responsible for cleaning on play sites:
  • Emptying litter bins
  • Litter picking
  • Removal of graffiti and minor grounds maintenance tasks
You will be expected to record written safety inspections, to comply with the European Guidelines for play safety (training will be given). As part of this busy team, you will carry out repairs and maintenance of play equipment utilizing a wide variety of hand tools and technical drawings to ensure that equipment is safe for users.

Driving forms an intrinsic part of the duties of this post. You will use Council provided vehicles to visit site (alone and with other members of the team) transporting tools and play equipment and taking rubbish away from site to be tipped. You will require good communication and interpersonal skills to ensure the close working necessary in this busy team and when communicating with members of the public.

You will be expected to obtain qualifications relating to play site inspection (Register of Play Inspectors International Level I and II), training will be provided to help you in obtaining this qualification.

Interviews are due to take place around/after the 6th of February 2025

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, and an Enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.
