At North Tyneside Council we have an exciting opportunity to influence the strategic direction, quality, and delivery of Occupational Therapy services across Social Care.
As Principal Occupational Therapist & Senior Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading and inspiring teams across our Occupational Therapy Services (Inc Housing, Community OT, Paediatric & Joint Loan Equipment Services). This position combines high-level operational management with professional leadership, offering you the opportunity to drive innovation and transformation within a supportive and forward-thinking organisation.

What You’ll Do
As the Principal Occupational Therapist & Senior Manager, your leadership and vision will drive forward improvements, ensuring our OT services are high-quality, innovative, and customer-focused.
You will:
• Lead and inspire teams: Provide strong and visible leadership to Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Team Managers, and technical staff. You’ll foster a culture of high performance, professional development, and collaboration that promotes accountability and personal growth.
• Drive quality and innovation: Develop, implement, and embed professional practice standards that align with the Care Act, Childrens legislation, Housing Legislation, and NHS frameworks, ensuring exceptional outcomes for service users.
• Shape strategic direction: Collaborate with senior leaders to design and implement long-term strategies that reflect best practices, innovation, and the needs of our communities.
• Embed a strengths-based approach: Lead cultural change by championing strengths-based, preventative approaches that empower individuals, support independence, and reduce long-term reliance on services.
• Develop strong partnerships: Work closely with health, housing, and social care partners to deliver coordinated, integrated, and person-centered services. Represent the organisation at regional and national forums to influence policy and practice.
• Lead service improvement: Use data, evidence, and professional expertise to identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions that focus on:
o Reducing waiting times for assessments and interventions.
o Delivering cost-effective and timely adaptations.
o Enhancing customer satisfaction and achieving measurable outcomes.
• Oversee financial management: Manage budgets effectively, ensuring services operate within financial targets while delivering value for money and improved outcomes.
• Ensure compliance and safety: Oversee health and safety compliance, governance, and regulatory requirements, ensuring all services align with CQC and OFSTED standards.
• Champion the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG): Take a strategic lead in policy development and implementation, ensuring housing adaptations are delivered effectively and improve accessibility for service users.
• Drive workforce development: Lead on creating a culture of continuous learning, supporting professional development through supervision, training, and embedding national practice standards.
• Promote quality assurance: Develop robust systems for monitoring and improving performance, ensuring services are of the highest standard and evidence-based.
• Influence change and innovation: Actively contribute to transforming services by addressing systemic challenges, promoting co-production, and implementing innovative practices.
