In June 2023, North Tyneside Adult Learning Service were officially recognised by Ofsted as offering outstanding adult learning provision with outstanding leadership and management. We currently have a unique opportunity within our team for a 16-19 specialist to work within our well-established and award-winning Working Roots programme enabling reduction of NEET rates by engaging young people in work-focused study programmes.
Recruiting up to 30 young people each academic year, our partnership with work supervisors and mentors enables learners to develop professional skills, enhance employability and gain vocational, English and maths qualifications supporting progression to further education, employment and/or training.
The post-holder will engage and inspire young people who are at risk of being or becoming NEET to ensure their sustained engagement in study programme activity.
The successful candidate
Our ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of inclusive teaching methodologies understanding the challenges and barriers associated with NEET prevention and intervention programmes such as Working Roots. Teaching and assessing employability and related vocational training, within your specialist skill set, you will motivate attendance, encourage aspiration and empower personal and professional development.
You will lead learners enrolled to our study programmes ensuring progress against starting point in all required expectations and quality standards. You will need knowledge and experience of this area developing and maintaining resources appropriate to the delivery of planned learning and assessment activities, preferably with an appropriate teaching qualification or willingness to work towards a minimum level of teaching qualification as a condition of appointment.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate, in their application form, practical examples of how they fulfil the person specification.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and an Enhanced DBS disclosure, including Barred List Check, will be required.
