Further Information
Durham County Council’s Children and Young People’s Services have an exciting opportunity for the right Practitioner to join our very successful Future Hope Practice. This is an exciting time, as we look to innovate and expand our offer, building on the success seen over the past 4 years.
Future Hope is a countywide project that works with women who have children who don't currently live in their care. We know how difficult it is when families can't stay together. Our tag line is ‘Stepping forward together’, we are here to provide a listening ear, practical support and the tools to equip and empower women to make the changes they desire.
We work with women who have experienced, or are at risk of, repeated pregnancies that result in children needing to be separated from their care. We aim to give women the opportunity to take a break, reflect and take control of their lives, breaking a painful cycle that causes both them and their children deep trauma.
Our Practitioners form long-term relationships with the women, helping them in all areas of their lives to achieve their goals and attain stability. We work with women regardless of circumstances, we are assertive in our outreach, working to build their trust and engagement. Our practice is trauma informed, strength based and woman centred. We can work with women for up to 18 months. After that we offer light touch support as a safety net when women need advice or signposting.
You will be an experienced trauma informed Practitioner, with a passion for relationship-based change work and a desire to see less children entering the care system each year.
‘You saved my life and I’ll say that for the rest of my life because you brought the colour back into the world for me when everything was just so dark and horrible, I’ll never forget yous and I keep going cause I can hear your calming voice in my head telling me I can do it. You always say it’s me that did the work I agree I did but you got me there’
‘This time last year was in a difficult place and at high risk of getting pregnant. I struggled and worried about it a lot. Future Hope helped me working through this issue and get on the contraception I wanted, so I could start focussing on doing things for me. I would recommend Future Hope to anyone’
‘You helped me see a brighter future and that not everything will be hard forever. Even though it seems so hard, there really is a light at the end of the tunnel'
'I can’t thank you enough, you always went above and beyond. I'd recommend yous to anyone. Its so nice to have someone to talk to when you feel so alone. You believed in me when no one else did and now I believe in myself. I was in a really bad place, I could have been dead if it wasn't for yous’
