Further Information
An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a Regional Children in Care Council worker.
The role is to support the development and coordination of the Children in Care Council across the North East region. The Regional Children in Care Council’s role is to help amplify the voices of young people who are cared for and help them make meaningful changes. To assist with this, a core part of the role will include linking with the Regional Care Leavers Board and ensuring the work they are doing is held to account by care experienced young people.
For this role, you will sit within the Communities and Inclusion Children’s Participation Team whilst working closely with members of the Children’s Participation Team and participation leads across the North East.
You will work closely with young people and participation workers from across the region, supporting their feedback to internal and external partners.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and an understanding of the benefits of participation and how this benefits children and young people.
Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and other relevant safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance, including Working Together 2018 and leaving care offers, will be required as part of this role.
We welcome applications from applicants with lived experience or an understanding of the benefits of being part of young people’s councils.
This post is 18.5 hours per week, with working hours frequently being outside of normal office hours and occasional weekends.
Applicants should be prepared to work flexibly across the North East to meet the needs of the post.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and an Enhanced DBS disclosure, including Barred List Check, will be required.

Our Carbon Net-Zero 2030 Action Plan
In 2019, North Tyneside Council declared a climate emergency. This declaration set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of the council’s operations, and the borough, by 50% by 2023 and to align to the Government’s net zero target of 2050.
We recognise the significant role we can play in the borough in helping to limit climate change, but we can’t do this alone; we need help from all our residents, businesses, voluntary and community sectors and of course all those who apply and work for us. Together we can make North Tyneside a sustainable place to live and work for everyone in the borough.
