The Education, Health, and Needs (EHN) Team is seeking to recruit a dedicated Pastoral and Reintegration Mentor. The role will involve working with pupils referred to the EHN Service due to medical conditions preventing regular school attendance.
The successful candidates will play a critical role in supporting these pupils throughout their educational journey, from initial referral to reintegration into mainstream or alternative educational settings.

Please note this role is based at our Sacriston site.

Key Responsibilities:

Mentoring and Pastoral Support:
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their transition into a small-group educational provision, where they will receive tailored education while unable to attend mainstream school.
Provide pastoral support during their time in the EHN provision, ensuring the welfare and well-being of pupils is continuously monitored and addressed.

Reintegration Planning and Support:
Design and implement comprehensive reintegration plans for pupils transitioning back to their referring schools or alternative educational placements.
Support the reintegration process through a carefully structured and individualised package, ensuring the pupil's needs are met and progress is monitored.

Mentoring Programmes:
Deliver bespoke mentoring programmes to small groups of pupils, addressing their specific personal and social development needs.

Competence in Advocacy:
Work closely with schools to identify and implement reasonable adjustments to accommodate pupils’ needs.

Collaboration and Strategy Development:
Work closely with an identified caseload of children and young people to identify individual needs and develop outcome-based support plans that are reviewed regularly.
Collaborate with parents, carers, and other agencies to ensure a holistic approach to addressing the needs of pupils.

Integration Plans:
Develop tailored integration strategies for pupils transitioning into longer-term educational placements.
Actively participate in the delivery and evaluation of these plans to ensure effectiveness and adaptability.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will have experience in pastoral care, mentoring, and reintegration within educational settings. They must demonstrate strong advocacy skills, ensuring schools make reasonable adjustments for pupils where required.

The post holders will need to be adaptable, empathetic, and skilled in working collaboratively with pupils, families, schools, and other agencies to promote the best outcomes for young people.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

The provision is unique and is the only one of its kind in County Durham. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the provision to gain a comprehensive understanding of both the setting and the role.

Calculation of term time only plus two weeks’ pay

Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated on the basis of the following:
• Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks; plus
• Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
• Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks; plus
• Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years’ service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years’ service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:
Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
Calculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
