The team…
The Education Support Service consists of a large team of highly committed and effective officers each of whom fulfils one or more of the statutory education duties in the local authority. Individual teams in Education Support Services include Admissions, Legal Intervention for Attendance, Fair Access (Pupil Inclusion), Exclusions, Elective Home Education, EOTAS, School Organisation and EMTAS.
About the role…
The Education Support Service Manager will work closely with the Strategic Lead for Education Services and will co-ordinate and line manage the work of the team. They will manage the use of the council’s finance and HR systems and work with other departments, such as SEND, to ensure a cohesive approach from the Education, Schools and Inclusion team. Their main role is to ensure that all vulnerable children and young people receive education and education support including where necessary the commissioning of alternative provision. The Education Support Service Manager will have oversight of the Safeguarding arrangements across all of the education providers in Gateshead and will need to have a sound awareness of the key issues and challenges in education today, to be able to inform policy and procedures.
The Education Support Manager will need to have excellent experience of managing a number of teams simultaneously and be able to work in a high-pressured environment, delivering on tight deadlines when necessary. Experience of working across multi agency teams, would be an advantage, as would excellent communication skills.

You’ll be paid a competitive salary £62,440 to £69,586 per annum.
