About the role….
Gateshead Council are looking to appoint a Street Scene Service Manager, within the Housing, Environment and Healthy Communities group. This is an exciting opportunity within a service that is essential to providing a clean, safe and attractive Gateshead which promotes pride in place, and improves the health and wellbeing of our communities. Our service provides a range of integrated services that help keep the environment where people work, live and spend their spare time in a clean, safe and attractive condition.
The role includes the management of all our Street Scene operations including grass cutting, street cleansing, maintenance of parks and open spaces, horticultural best practice and winter maintenance.
The role includes the management of budgets, resources and facilities including employees, vehicles, plant, equipment, depots and stock to maximise performance, avoid unnecessary use and make arrangements for incidents occurring outside of normal working hours. You will also participate in the delivery of the Winter Maintenance functions and duties (including out of hours) to ensure that the Council delivers its obligations under the Winter Maintenance Plan.

You’ll be paid a competitive salary £52,805 to £56,139 pa

You will receive an annual leave entitlement starting at 28 days per year (pro-rata for part time employees) rising to 32, 2 of which may be fixed by the council at any time. You also have the chance to buy up to 10 additional holidays per year.
You’ll have the opportunity to participate in the Council’s Flexi time scheme, subject to management approval and business needs, which could be up to 26 flexi days per year.
