About the role…. 

An opportunity has arisen for two keen and enthusiastic student planners on a one-year fixed term contract to support the delivery of its planning service.  The post holders will get the opportunity to undertake a range of planning work throughout the year in the Spatial Planning and Development Management teams. 

The student planner in the Spatial Planning Team you will learn and build skills and assist in the preparation of the NewcastleGateshead Local Plan and other planning documents including digital projects.  You should have a reasonable knowledge and experience of spatial planning practice, procedure and legislation. It is essential that you have good oral, written and communication skills and are computer literate. 

The student planner in the Development Management Team will process planning applications, pre-application advice, and be part of the team working on our digital planning project to deliver service improvements. You must have good negotiation skills and a strong customer focus. You should have knowledge and experience of Development Management practice, procedure and legislation. It is essential that you are computer literate and have a full clean driving licence. Access is available to pool cars for carrying out site inspections. 

There will be opportunity to gain experience in both teams.

You must have knowledge and experience of … 

The UK Planning system and government planning legislation  

Well developed planning and IT skills 

Good oral and written communication skills 

Working within a team 

Working on own initiative and taking responsibility  

Managing own workload 

 Desirable 

Awareness of the governments Open Digital Planning program 

You must have the following qualifications. 

Undertaking a relevant degree course or equivalent. These would include Town Planning, Urban Design and Planning and Geography.
