About the role…. 

An opportunity has arisen for a keen and enthusiastic GIS student on a one-year fixed term contract to work in the Spatial Planning Team and assist with the digitisation of the planning service. You will learn and build skills and assist with carrying out a variety of GIS mapping work, including the creation, analysis, presentation and management of information. The post holder will contribute to the work underway on the NewcastleGateshead Local Plan and support a number of other projects being taken forward within the service. The successful candidate must be able to work positively within the team, with other relevant Council services, and with outside bodies as required. 

You must have good communication skills and an ability to manage your workload to meet deadlines. You should be able to demonstrate an interest in GIS mapping work, and in spatial planning practice.

You must have knowledge and experience of … 

Computer literacy  
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 
Analytical / problem solving skills  
A basic understanding of the concepts behind data management in a rational database  
Working within a team  
Working on own initiative taking responsibility and managing own workload  

You must have the following qualifications. 

Undertaking a relevant degree course or equivalent
