The team…
You will be joining the Energy and Design Service, an exciting and diverse team of officers who design, procure and manage construction schemes, as well as leading the way with the development of our award-winning District Heat and Power Network (operated by Gateshead Energy Company). We support the Council to deliver compliant, safe, design / construction schemes – schools, offices, housing improvements, major infrastructure, as well energy efficiency, renewable generation and energy storage schemes, working to help everyone in Gateshead thrive, as well as our decarbonisation goals and our aim to provide low cost, low carbon energy for the people of Gateshead. We work dynamically to deliver at pace and have big ambitions to expand our work and continue to lead the way with design, construction and decarbonising energy.
About the role….
You will join the team at an exciting time, with a pipeline of major construction schemes that require you to manage and provide of a full Mechanical design and management service. We also have a constant and growing programme of energy schemes – district heat connections, air and minewater heat pump installations, energy efficiency projects and major extensions to our heat networks – both for the Council and Gateshead Energy Company (GEC).
You will report directly to the Energy Services Manager, with line management responsibilities as/when required, being responsible for:
To manage and undertake mechanical design, including feasibility studies and project design
To co-ordinate and /or provide the management of pre and post contract project activities, including dealing with contractors, all in accordance with the RIBA Plan of Work and CDM Regulations (2015)
To plan, procure, contract and manage mechanical design and works for Council homes, buildings and for Gateshead Energy Company’s district heat network
To manage and support staff to grow and develop in their roles
To contribute to the provision of the information necessary for the preparation monitoring and review of Council budgets
To prepare draft reports and/or represent the service at meetings / working groups etc. of the Council
To contribute to the establishing and maintaining of the standard and policies of the service
To manage staff, allocated work, resources, projects, and monitor performance within a section, within budget and staff time constraints
To act as Client’s representative when dealing with private consultants
To represent the service in dealings with Government Service, agencies, the general public and outside bodies
To manage and/or undertake building surveys and/or establish property conditions and/or recommend remedial action
To contribute to the development and monitoring of long term energy/green/ sustainability issues
Such other responsibilities allocated which are appropriate to the grade of the post
Knowledge we’re looking for:
Degree on Mechanical Engineering and Full corporate membership of CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent
Full knowledge of buildings Services and Energy issues
All relevant mechanical Codes of Practice, Statutory regulations and other relevant legisalation, including CDM Regulations (2015)
