The team…
The High Incidence Needs Team works with schools across Gateshead to support children and young people with SEND. The team provides advice, guidance and interventions to promote inclusive education practices and support pupil progress.
About the role….
As an Advisory Teacher in Cognition and Learning you will utilise your specialist knowledge and experience to support schools across Gateshead to meet the needs of children and young people with Cognition and Learning needs, including literacy difficulties, numeracy difficulties and memory difficulties. The work is varied according to each pupil and each school, but typically includes undertaking assessments of pupils referred to the service, ensuring the voice of the pupil is heard, and liaising where appropriate with parents and carers.
You will work closely with senior leaders, SENCos, pastoral staff and teachers in both primary and secondary schools, including those maintained by the Local Authority and academies, providing a quality service to find solutions to complex problems. You will also develop and deliver training on Cognition and Learning needs to schools and other partners, ensuring your work has maximum impact to enhance and deliver progress for children and young people. Although based at the Civic Centre, you will spend the majority of your time working in schools.
