We’re on the lookout for an Installation & Maintenance Overhead Line Charge Person to join our hybrid Overhead Line team. This isn’t just a job—it’s a mission to keep the Metro moving and the network safe, sound, and ready for the next journey.
In this safety-critical role, you will assist the Section Supervisor in leading the team as Charge Person in the coordination and allocation of works, and undertake renewal, inspection, maintenance and repair works aligned to the department asset management portfolio across Nexus Infrastructure. Typical Day
- Get hands-on with leading a team delivering Overhead Line Renewal, Inspection, Maintenance and Repair activities across our Infrastructure network.
- Be a key person who supports Nexus in ensuring the asset management portfolio within the Overhead Line renewal and maintenance team meets the safety, legislative compliance, operational performance and reliability requirements of Nexus.
- Be the calm in the storm when disruption hits—liaise with the Control Room and keep the Overhead Line system performing.
- Enjoy the freedom of working independently (with plenty of support when you need it).
- Be ready for call-outs and emergencies—because you’re the hero behind the scenes.
About You
- You hold (or you are working towards) an NVQ (or equivalent) Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area, or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience
- You hold Knowledge of Railway Overhead Line Electrification Principles
- You hold knowledge of Railway Operations of Road and Rail Plant and Equipment
- You hold knowledge of relevant health and safety standards, procedures and instructions
- You have the ability to record detailed and accurate information relating to faults, failures and record inspection findings and defect assessments
- You have experience of working with a range of portable tools, small plant and equipment to enable duties of the role to be undertaken.
- You’re a self-starter who thrives when working solo but loves being part of a team too.

- This is a job that works shifts typically from Sunday Night to Friday Morning and is permanent night shift with the exception of shifts being required to be changed to meet business needs and for training and incident support.
