Trustees of the Laidlaw Schools Trust invite applications for the post of Senior Strategic Leader for Science at Excelsior Academy Newcastle upon Tyne.

This is an exciting post for an excellent teacher and leader of Science.

Excelsior Academy is Newcastle’s first all through provision. Initially an 11 – 18 Academy, Excelsior admitted the first cohort of Reception and Year 1 children in September 2013 and expects to increase by 1 FE Reception children each year until reaching capacity of 210 Primary pupils in September 2018.

We are at an exciting stage of development for Science at Excelsior. At present, Core Science, Additional Science and Vocational Science are offered at KS4 and Chemistry, Physics, Biology and B Tech L3 Applied Biology are offered at AS and A Level.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the Academy’s future Science curriculum, courses and qualifications to best meet the needs and interests of our pupils and to engender a love of Science in our pupils that enables them to understand and marvel at the relevance of Science.

A number of projects with local businesses, universities and The Centre for Life aimed at supporting the teaching and learning of Science and of STEM subjects are in their infancy.

The successful candidate will be committed to developing Science in its own right but also in relation to STEM subjects.

Further development of the Academy’s structure for delivering Science and maximising the potential of our dedicated and professional team of specialist teachers is anticipated and the thoughts and views of the successful candidate will be key to that process.
