Further Information
Would you like some casual, hourly paid, teaching work throughout the year?

Are you already employed part-time in a Durham school or have you very recently left the classroom or are currently looking for teaching work?
We wish to appoint Outreach Teachers to the pool of casual paid staff in the Educational Support Services. The post is on a casual contract and hours allocated as need arises. The post holders will provide individual and small group teaching and pastoral support for vulnerable pupils including those unable to attend school due to their health needs.

This post is an excellent opportunity to join a new team. We mostly require KS3/4 subject specialist teachers in English, Maths, Science and Computing but do require a small number of other subject specialisms and Primary teachers. You will contribute to innovative and creative approaches to maintain educational progress for pupils who are temporarily unable to attend school due to their health needs or for vulnerable pupils who need extra support.

Most pupils are taught on a 1 to1 basis at a teaching venue near their home. When appropriate, pupils access time-limited provision in a small nurture group based in school settings or other appropriate venue. All pupils have individualised learning and pastoral plans. The primary aim is to re-integrate pupils back to their base school as soon as possible to reduce any possible underachievement. There is also a focus on supporting pupils’ mental well-being and a strong focus on safeguarding and reducing inequalities.

You will work with teaching and support staff in the Education Health Needs (EHN) team. Collaboration with staff in schools, to ensure barriers to continuing education is minimised for pupils, is an important element of the post.

Experience of teaching and supporting vulnerable pupils, particularly with medical needs, is desirable but not essential as training will be given. Progression will be in line with procedures for supply staff.
Are you a good team player and committed to multi-agency working? Do you have a pro-active, reflective approach to your work?
If so, we welcome your application.

Interviews will take place the week beginning the 9th June 2014.
