Durham County Council is appointing a consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine to provide additional capacity to the public health team in County Durham.
The Consultant will have a lead role for children and young people including school nursing, National Child Measurement Programme, education and health, oral health, childhood obesity and teenage pregnancy together with other duties associated with a consultant level post. Good collaborative working is already established across the Local Authority, Voluntary and Community Sector and particularly with the 14 Area Action Partnerships across the county.

bring a high level of intellectual rigour and personal credibility to collaborative and commissioning agendas;
demonstrate high levels of political awareness, be able to work across different organisations;
be able to coordinate high quality advocacy across all three domains of public health – health improvement, health protection and health service quality;
have exceptional skills both in relation to developing the public health team and in helping to develop public health in the wider workforce; and
have a proven record of previous accomplishments in improving the health of communities.
