Job Location: Any council workplace within County Durham

This post will work locally in County Durham to support the first phase of an Amateur Swimming Association national pilot initiative promoting swimming for older people with Dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s. The initiative aims to lower barriers to participation by encouraging the frail and elderly to swim, whilst supporting increased awareness and understanding of Dementia.

You will work in association with Culture & Sport colleagues, Service Teams within the Council, the Dementia Strategy for County Durham & Darlington Implementation Group, officers from the Amateur Swimming Association and other external agencies to establish the Dementia Friendly Swimming Project in County Durham.

Duties & responsibilities will include co-ordinating the strategic development of services to the target group (people with dementia and their carers) through provision of a range of aquatics activity and related health promoting support, in response to identified needs.

Strong project management skills and experience of working in partnership and delivering results are essential to this position, as is a flexible approach to work and a willingness and ability to work outside of normal hours on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications:
Degree level qualification or equivalent qualification in a related area.
