An exciting opportunity exists for a School Chef at West Newcastle Academy. West Newcastle Academy opened in September 2013 with a single cohort of 28 children. There are now 40 children on role, with the school growing year-on-year to become a school of 200 pupils. We are currently located in temporary premises, with a new school being built to open in September 2015. This position presents an exciting opportunity to help open and develop the kitchen within the new school.

Typical duties within this post will be providing a high quality catering service to the school by organising, preparing and serving meals in accordance with specified standards. The School Chef is responsible for all catering functions across the school including wrap around care (breakfast and after school clubs) school fruit, school milk and other snacks as well as lunches. As much of our learning occurs outdoor, packed lunches and hot food will need to be prepared to be taken off-site.

There will be responsibility to organise and supervise staff and resources on a day to day basis to ensure the preparation and serving of the designated daily menu is in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.

It is essential that you are capable of good relationships with others and able to work as part of a team.

Experience within a catering environment and of delivering a consistent quality product is also essential.

In order to meet the needs of the service you will be required to be flexible.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
